How to make chicken steamed momos (step wise)

Ingredients:

For making the stuffing 350 g Chicken mince/ keema  1 & 1/2 onion(finely chopped) 2 tsp grated Garlic 2 tsp Ginger(grated) 1/2 tsp Pepper powder 1 tsp Soya sauce 1 tsp Salt

Ingredients:

For making the dough  2 cups Maida/all purpose flour 3/4 tsp Salt 1 & 1/2 cup of water

Other ingredients: 2 tsp of oil for greasing the steamer

Making of filling

For preparing its filling, take Chicken mince(homemade/store bought), grated ginger-garlic, chopped onion, soya sauce, salt, and pepper powder, mix it well.

Making of dough

Take maida/all purpose flour, 3/4 tsp of salt in a bowl, mix it well, knead with hot water until soft and smooth, cover the dough for 30 mins to make it soft.

Rolling the dough

Turn the dough into small lemon size balls, roll them into thin disks, like puri dusting little flour over the rolling board or cleaned kitchen board.

How to stuff it

Put a spoon full of stuffing in the center of the disk.

Momos shape by hand

Fold the disk with your fingertip, first close the one end of the disk, then make pleates with your fingertip and join the pleates together to get it shape. 

Utensils used to steam momos

Take a momo steamer or a plain colander or an idly steamer(which is available at home). Grease it with refined oil(to avoid sticking), arrange the momos on it.

How to steam momos

Put water filled steamer bowl or pan on stovetop. Once water starts boiling put the momo-filled steamer rack or colander on the steamer.  Tightly cover the steamer or the pan.

How long need to steam

Steam it on low flame for 18 -20 mins, carefully take out the momos from the steamer or colander as it is delicate while hot.

Storing Suggestions

You can store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days or freezer for more days. However, store the momos (before or after boiling) in an airtight container.

Serving Suggestions

Serve it with hot chilli garlic chutney or momo chutney. For kids, serve these dumplings with sweet and sour tomato ketchup or mayonnaise

Can I boil the momos?

Yes, you can. Take a pan fill its 3/4 with water, heat it until the water starts boiling, put the chicken momos in it. Just after 10 mins of boiling, momos are done, the same way, you can do it in pressure cooker too.

Can I make its wrapper with atta/wheat flour?

Either totally replace maida with atta/whole wheat flour or use half a half wheat & maida/all purpose flour.
