What is Dimer devil?

Dimer devil or dimer chop or dimer cutlet is a Bengali term means Bengali egg cutlet. Right name could be "Dim'er devil" or Egg's devil. A breadcrumb coated egg shaped Bengali egg snacks made with boiled egg, mashed potato or minced meat and simple Indian spices, a popular street food of kolkata


5 Hard-boiled Eggs 4 Boiled Potatoes 1 Onion 1 Tomato 10 Garlic Cloves 1 tsp Ginger paste 3 Green Chillies 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder

Step 1

Boil the eggs until hard boiled, once eggs cool down peel off the skin and cut (cut it lengthwise) into halves.

How to make Dimer devil?

Pressure cook the potatoes, once the potatoes cool down, peel them off and mash.

Step 2

In a pan, fry onion, roast ginger-garlic-tomato, green chilli paste with cumin powder, chilli powder, turmeric & salt.

Step 3

Roast the masala until masalas raw smell goes off. Add the mashed potatoes, mix well.

Step 4

Keep stirring the potato until gets dry or leave the bottom of the pan.Lastly sprinkle black salt & homemade bhaja masala, mix well & potato stuffing is ready.

Step 5

Once the stuffing cools down, make lemon-sized potato balls from the stuffing. Press each potato ball with a half egg to form egg potato ball like a shape of a whole egg.

Step 6

In a bowl, beat 2 eggs with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper, dip the egg potato balls into the beaten eggs & evenly coat with breadcrumbs.

Step 7

Deep fry those breadcrumb coated egg potato balls until golden & crispy and dimer devil /dimer chop / dimer cutlet is ready. Serve it hot with tomato ketchup, kasundi(Bengali mustard sauce) & onion cucumber salad.
