How to make Fresh Orange juice in mixer grinder or blender

Before winter even begins, oranges start appearing in the market — and this year is no exception. Around this time, especially in my home too, the preparation of fresh orange juice begins — why? Let me tell you.
Actually, oranges available this early in the season aren’t usually very sweet, and my son, Abhi, refuses to eat them if they’re even slightly sour. So, I usually turn them into fresh juice instead.

I make the juice using our regular home mixer grinder. But earlier, I used to face a big problem — even if I ran the grinder for just a short while, some of the orange seeds would get crushed and mix into the juice, making it slightly bitter and spoiling the taste.

At first, I came up with my own solution: I started cutting out the seed portions from the oranges before blending them. It took a bit more time, but the juice never turned bitter.

Later, I noticed that almost all the bakeries in Bangalore sell fresh fruit juice, and they use ordinary mixer grinders too! Yet, their orange or sweet-lime juice never tastes bitter. That made me curious — what was their secret?

Whenever I ordered juice at a bakery, I’d watch closely as they prepared it. After observing them carefully for a few days, I figured it out! They peel the oranges, remove the white fibrous parts, and then make deep slits all over the fruit. When they blend the oranges with a little water and sugar, the seeds come out through those slits — without getting crushed at all.

Using this method, you can easily make juice not only from Nagpur or Darjeeling oranges but also from Kinnow oranges or any variety of mandarin oranges.

Since then, I’ve been using their technique too, and it works beautifully. That’s why I thought of sharing it on my blog — because I’m sure many of you must have struggled the same way I did while making orange juice at home.

Do let me know how you liked these simple techniques for making orange juice easily at home. I’ll be waiting to hear from you — take care and stay well! 🍊💛

Story About Fresh Orange Juice Making

A funny incident once happened to me while making orange juice — though it wasn’t funny at all when it actually happened!

I had just moved up to Class 11. It was winter. My father had brought home 2–3 kilos of oranges from the market. Suddenly, a few guests arrived at our house. I told my mother, “I’ll make orange juice!”

She looked at me doubtfully and asked, “Can you?”
I confidently replied, “Of course! It’s very easy.”

We had just bought a mixer grinder the previous month. So, I peeled about a kilo of oranges, removed the white fibrous parts, separated the segments, put them in the large jar of the mixer, added some water and the right amount of sugar, and started blending.

What I completely forgot to do was remove the seeds! As a result, all the orange seeds got crushed along with the pulp — turning the juice into something more bitter than neem juice or chirata tonic! It was utterly undrinkable.

Naturally, I got a long scolding from my mother. Out of a mix of embarrassment, hurt pride, and regret, I gulped down one full glass of that unbearably bitter juice and threw away the rest. Then, with tears in my eyes and a stinging nose, I swore I’d never again make orange juice in a mixer.

But perhaps that very regret — and my never-give-up attitude — pushed me to try again later, this time with renewed enthusiasm and a little more grown-up wisdom. And that’s how I finally succeeded in making perfect orange juice!

So I thought, many of you might have faced the same disaster the first time you tried making orange juice in a mixer. That’s why I wanted to share this post — hoping it helps you avoid my mistakes! 🍊🙂

Serving Instructions

If you’re making the juice for a small child, it’s best to strain it.
And if the child is between 1 to 2 years old, mix ½ cup of orange juice with 1 to 1½ cups of water before giving it to them — this makes it easier to digest and helps prevent acidity.

For adults, there’s no need to strain the juice — drinking it with the pulp provides roughage, which helps keep the stomach clean.

For children, you can add a little sugar to reduce the sourness, but for adults, it’s best not to add any sugar or jaggery. It’s generally believed that adding sugar or any sweetener or salt to fresh fruit juice reduces its nutritional value. 🍊

Pure, freshly extracted Orange juice made by simply blending fresh oranges with little water, with or without sugar, without adding preservatives, artificial flavours, colours, or sweeteners.

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg Fresh Orange

  • 1 Glass of Water

  • Sugar(As per taste or sourness of oranges)

Directions

  • First Method
  • Took 1 kg of oranges (Nagpur orange or Darjeeling orange), peeled the oranges, cleaned the pith(white fibrous part) of the orange, and separated the orange carpels.
  • Then remove the orange seeds. To remove the seeds, cut each carpel from the middle and take out all the seeds first.
  • Then put the deseeded oranges into the mixer grinder jar for a few seconds until the oranges extract juice.
  • Here, we get 1 and 1/2 cups of fresh orange juice from 3-4 oranges without adding water.
  • Fresh orange juice is ready.
  • You can serve this juice directly from the blender if you want to have the fibre or roughage part too, with no sugar.
  • To add sugar, add 3 tbsp of sugar and 1 glass of water, blend well, and strain before serving.
  • From 1 kg of oranges, we will get 3-4 glasses of juice, adding 1 and 1/2 glasses of water.
  • Second Method(Bakery style orange juice)
  • Again, I took 1 kg of oranges(Nagpur orange, Darjeeling orange, Kinnow orange or any mandarin orange), peeled them, and removed the orange pith.
  • Make deep slit all over the oranges, slit 3-4 places.
  • Take 3 oranges, 4 tbsp sugar, and 1 glass of water in the blender jar or juicer jar.
  • Blend 2-3 times, every time blend for 30 seconds, not more than that.
  • If you strain the juice, you can see each seed is intact, which means no seeds are crushed.
  • Here, we get 2 glasses of fresh orange juice from 3 oranges.
  • From 1 kg of oranges, we will get 3-4 glasses of juice, adding 1 and 1/2 glasses of water.

Notes

  • Must thoroughly wash the oranges and then nicely wipe them before peeling.
  • Do not add more water than suggested in this recipe; more water makes the juice taste bland.
